BlackRa1n Still Not Working for You? Try this BlackRa1n Fix Checklist

After hundreds of comments and over 8,000 views on our previous post on various ways to get BlackRa1n running, I’ve narrowed it down to a checklist you can follow to ensure that frodo will do his magic on your idevice. If there is anything I missed please let me know.
From various comments on the last post, it appears that BlackRa1n CAN run on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7. So if you think it’s your OS, it’s probably not. I myself have had success with an iPhone 3G on both Windows XP and Windows 7. It has also been reported that you can be on any firmware 3.0+ and it should work, so that narrows it down to the fact that it is not the OS or the firmware. Which doesn’t really narrow it down by much.
Other’s also reported that performing a backup restore prevents it from working, which again is not true. I had restored my backup after updating to 3.1.2 and some apps before Jailbreaking successfully. So scratch that.
Not every point in this list will be necessary however, to increase your success rate, I highly recommend following them.
So the checklist begins:
0. Log in as the Administrator
1. Perform a backup/sync in iTunes for safety
2. Check if you have the file QTCF.dll, in C: / Windows/System32. If you dont have,you can download it from here. [Thanks to UltraLord]
3. Remove any passlocks you may have on the phone.
4. Enable “Airplane Mode” under Settings
5. Open iTunes and disable all Syncing (Check the first comment for a detailed breakdown of how to disable this)
6. Open Taks Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and kill the following processes if open: iTunesHelper.exe iTunes.exe, AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe, msdnresponder.. (any i missed?)
7. Leave AppleMobileService.exe running for now. (might be required to end it after stuck in a mode)
8. Unplug your phone/ipod.
9. Download BlackRa1n to the root of your C:/ drive.
10. Right click blackra1n.exe and choose Run As.. then enter the Administrator credentials. Uncheck the “Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity” option. If you see “This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer” then unsure you unblock it. (this step may be skipped, but not sure. Haven’t confirmed if this is needed. Some worked without) (You can also try Compatibility Mode)
11. Click Make It Rain, when prompted, connect iPhone. If things went alright , you should see Frodo’s face and and Voila. If not, continue reading.
BlackRa1n says “Entering Recovery Mode” but my iPhone is not entering recovery mode. Or my iPhone is stuck on the iTunes/USB Restore screen and blackra1n still says “Entering Recovery Mode” or my iPhone turned off and won’t boot, blackra1n says “Entering Recovery Mode”
1. Press the power button and the home at a time and when you see the icon of the apple release the power but keep pressing the home until you see the photo of geohot with the Iphone. Let go home then.
2. Turn the phone off complete ly by unplugging USB cord. (Note Blackra1n is still running in the background) Plug it back in and try setp 2 again.
BlackRa1n has entered my iPhone into Recovery mode, and now says “Running…” but nothing is happening. I still see the iTunes/USB Restore screen on my iPhone/iPod.
If this is the case, try the following:
1. Close blackra1n and try opening it Again
2. Try terminating the process AppleMobileService.exe. (May require you to unplug/reboot your iPhone or Running BlackRa1n again)
3. [more suggestions from comments to be entered]
I’ll try and add some more scenarios. If anyone has anything they want to add, please feel free.

It does not work I have a iphone 3g on network at&t 8.0 gb version 3.1.2 (7d11) Model mb702ll I have 3 computers running windows xp home I tried all the fixes and nothing works and I must have rebooted the phone a million times using itunes restore because it would not reboot the regular way so figure that out takes allmost 30 minutes to restore time at least 100 times Thats crazy and not very easy On one computer my laptop I start the program and click make it rain and it freezes at the connect to itunes screen on the phone and on the other two computers desktops it gets thru that and I get a dark screen on the phone with no pic of nature boy on it and it says wait for reboot and I wait for like over a hour and the phone just shuts off and when I restart it it says connect to itunes Please help They said this was a easy jailbreak I would like to have the old jailbreak back that you had to wait so many seconds and push buttons I bet 50 percent of us cannot get this jailbreak I would like to know why Thanks for any help –Ray– Email rayp0498@aol.com
After 7 hours… 7 HOURS!.. i have done it. but when you say

There is one thing you have to watch for and it after i ended it , everything went fine. Look for something running in processes call “SyncCenter.exe” is not branded by itunes but may be a program running on windows. PS: Im running on Windows 7.

i have a 2nd gen ipod touch with the serial number that starts with mc. is there a way to jailbreak it? everything goes good until the reboot . it never reboots just gets stuck on a black screen, i’ve tried everything for about 3 weeks now. please help
- Download and keep BlackRa1n.exe in your C:\
- Right click on BlackRa1n.exe –> properties–> Compatibility -> check the run this program in compatibility mode for… XP and also check the Run as admin option.
- Upgrade to 3.1.2 and restore with your latest back up(sync contacts etc etc)
- Close itunes
- Go to control panel (classic view)-> User Accounts ->Manage another account -> Create new account -> Select Administrator option and create a new account
- Click on the newly created account and select Create password to set a password.
- Shutdown your system
- Boot your system
- Login with your new admin account
- Let the windows complete setting up your desktop
- Now connect your iphone via usb
- Right click on BlackRa1n.exe and run as admin ( though already set to run as admin in properties, just making sure.. this is what i did)
- Click on ‘Make it Ra1n”
- Sit back and relax.. (you have to click on a lengthy message from BlacRa1n during the process to say ‘OK’ ) GeoHot screen will appear and reboot ur iphone.. after that its all simple.. check ur iphone for blackra1n app..
The blackra1n executable process hangs when iTunes detects the iphone in dfu mode and will open trying to restore it. But during the last step itunes will try to open.. but because of new user, it will get stuck on license agreement page..
ok what do I do when after I download blackra1n and is says

funny story. i spent the entire weekend ditzing with my phone. i had totally lost all hope of recovery. i must have recovered to 3.1.2, using itunes, forty (40) times. and, blackra1n showing no specified behavior for a successful jailbrake. all this, on my dell 640 laptop.
i tried everything. i followed everyone’s advise. i can repeat and demonstrate my troubles using the crap dell 640 laptop (i got a physical drive – C:
formatted for real windows vista; i plugged in) and my sweetest 3d linux computer. the latter machine still maintains that windows vista image that came with the computer when i bought it – LOL. installed 3.1.2, from a recovery mode hang using itunes on the dell 640 laptop. installed and executed blakra1n on my best machine, booted to windows. And, finally, simply, in 20 seconds, it worked. oh, did i say my phones sync crap (applications, songs, and all) was in a vmware session. and the phone book and text messages are stored on my linux machine.
after jailbraking my 3.1.2 image, i synced to itunes (vmwared), picking up applications and music. then i went to cydia (using the now present blackra1n icon) and installed openssh, veency and winterboard. i’ve got themes and everything. copied my sms and contacts databases back. no real trouble.
wireless worked for a while and then became irratic. i reset networking and all is well now. i haven’t looked into the push trouble, because everything (email, calendar) is working fine. i might still install it? So using that good computer, copy qtcf.dll from quicktime to windows/system32, kill iTunesHelper so iTunes won’t start, and run blackra1n. Connect your phone to a proper high-speed USB port. See, the URLs, below, in order. forget all that rebooting crap.
Bottom line, don’t run blackra1n on your crap laptop. use one of your real computers using real windows.

i figured out how to fix the sqlite3_prepare_v2 problem if anyone encounters it download sqlite3.dll from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?sqlite3
then extract just the .dll file to c:/ WINDOWS/system32 replace the old sqlite3.dll restart your computer and it should fix the problem also fixes itunes sqlite3_prepare_v2 problem this may or may not help only do it if you have a pop up not allowing you to open blackra1n or itunes
Poizhan instructions did the trick for me. Running in on a clean user account seemed to help.
I also downloaded the dll mentioned, and killed the iTuensHelper.exe.

The (sqlite3.dll) file was everything, after copy the file in the system32 folder, it worked perfect for me
I tried blackra1n for the very first time without really paying attention to instructions and it worked excellent!! Only problem was that i choose the “developer” user insted of the normal user in Cydia! I could find a wasy to change the settings so from reading stuff on the internet i was advised to delete de cydia apps and the blackra1n app and to re-jailbreak it!! AFTER TRYING 3O TIMES NOW I CANT SEEM TO GET THE BLACKRA1N APP TO SHOW UP IN THE SPRINGBOAD AGAIN!! but it seems everything is working like it should….”the pic of frodo shows up…i get the message that i have just jailbraked and it was the simplest jailbreak ever…then it reboots…but the message to donate for download does’nt show anymore or the rain it app.” IT HAD ALREDY WORKED ONCE BEFORE!!! DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA WHY IT ISNT WORKING ANYMORE.
OK it worked but here what is my big problem. My iPhone 3GS is jailbroken ok, but when i go to reboot the device it goes to the itunes/usb and i have to run the program to boot up my device. Now, this doesn’t sound right, and my friend (has iphone 3gs) said that he can reboot whenever without running the program. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey gise if u r having trouble when u reboot your device and keeps doing the recovry mode loop then first go to http://www.ih8sn0w.com. then click on 1 of the icons that u have windows or mac. downlaod that to your desktop.(make sure you also download libusb-win32(google it)). then open downloaded file click the fix recovery mode loop, selct device u have, then sit back relax enjoy ur new rebooted device. make sure you have the device plugged in to computer that u used blackra1n or whatever on. hoped this helped.
It did not work for me. My phone is still locked. I’ve been trying it for hours…with no luck. Any advice? I am on 3.1.2 (7D11), 3G, firmware: 05.11.07

I’m REALLY not getting this
I used blackra1n rc3 to jailbreak my iPod 2g
I saved it in a folder, didn’t do anything to it
I jailbreaked my friends iPod (after a lot of whining and telling jailbreak rocks, lol)
and then (after 2 or 3 weeks) I went to do it for the girlfriend of a friend of mine, and since then all blackra1n.exe ‘s crash on Vista, XP and W7
Even the old one I didn’t touch in that folder somewhere on my comp?!?!
It just sais it stopped working and closes, error report, you know what I mean
I got QTCF.dll but didn’t reboot yet, gunne try the sqlite3.dll now

I cannot get BlackRa1n to work for me. My phone enters Recovery Mode and gets stuck. I have a 3.1.2 (8 gig) iphone. I have tried holding down the “Home button” and the “Power button” until the apple icon is shown and it goes right back to the recovery screen. When I enter iTunes it does not recognize my phone. I have reinstalled iTunes and still no recognition of my phone. I never had these issues before. Please advise.

Ok I have a 2g iPhone updated with 3.2.1 or whatever the new one is, I’m using winXP.
I downloaded blackra1n
pluged in my iPhone
iTunes loaded up so I closed it down
ran blackra1n
made it rain
phone went black
never saw a face on the fone
blackra1n said jail breAk was compleat waiting for reboot
NOTHING just a black screen
unpluged and repluged in iPhone and iTunes poped up saying it found fone in recovery and that’s it .
Looked online and most ppl say they saw the face but nothing worked in just getting a black screen but blackra1n says jalebreak is compleat
any help ppl please please please please
My fone is ok without jailbreak but it’s like haveing a super car but only using a push bike (its ok but having the basic but it’s best to use things to there potencial)

guys have this one ,,,, i have a iphone 3gs 32 and i lost my battery life so when i pluged into my usb port and run blackra1n to start my phone ….. it’s giveng me a error like blackrain it stopped working…

Anyone that can help me reboot my phone. I can get it to reboot sometimes but it takes me atleast 50-80 times of clicking make it rain for my phone to reboot? I’m on 3.1 3gs. It’s so annoying cuz after I DL a package from cydia I have to do this when it says reboot the device. An I have no choice. firtsly can i just say cheers for anyadvice you can give me here as im well… beginning to get a little cheesed off. i have had my iphone unlocked twice now the reason i needed it doing the second time was becuase i turned it off and paniced and did a full factory re set through i tunes and everything went back to normal!.
now my problem….. so i get it unlocked … i install blackra1n from the web site i save it, (tried on desktop and c drive) i run the app with ihone 3gs plugged in i get instant message saying “blackra1n cant work blah blah windows is trying to resolve the problem!

i have a 3 GS 5.11 baseband 3.1.2 firmware. 2 months ago i unlocked it (tethered) using blackr1n. this morning wifi wasn’t working i did a network restore and when i tried to unlock it again as i had already done many times previously, it got stuck in restore mode. geohot face appears but after a couple of minutes apple logo appears and back to restore mode (itunes USb cable). i wanted to do a restore but i only get the option restore and update which i do not want to do since i’d be stuck with the 3.1.3 firmware.. i’m SO incredibly stuck! any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you
simply download or (if you have downloaded) place blackra1n on your DESKTOP and run it…

HI!!!! i am absolutely obsessed with tryin 2 jailbreak my iPod touch 3.1.3, nd i say “obsessed” cuz no matter wat i do, wen i click on “Make it Ra1n”, the iPod goes in2 recovery mode, but after the screen with the USB nd Itunes icons, it doesnt reboot!!!!! IDK WAT 2 DO!!!!! HELP!!!! not even GeoHot’s face shows up!!! it jus stays in a black screen!!!

I brought an Iphone 3.1.2 from someone but have a Tmobile sim card. At first when I got the phone i was able to call and send messeges but no internet. The next day, i tried to restore it–when it rebooted the pic with the itunes and cord came up and the only option was to make emergency phone calls. I tried using blackra1n and nothin seems to work…Can someone help me, I think it was jailbreak because i was able to use it..so what should i do i really wanna use this phone an dget my moneys worth(smile) thanks in advance!!
IF your blackra1n.exe isn’t responding. GO TO A DIFFERENT COMPUTER. Download it there. Mine worked just like that.

please help! so im currently using a iphone 3g 8gb im running the latest version of vista on my pc and the latest itunes 9. im still on the 3.0 & i was trying to upgrade to 3.1 and everything went fine , i restored & chose the firmware when it promted me , then it got stuck on the “connect to itunes” screen. i have a t-mobile sim and itunes says its an incorrect sim…please help ..email me if you can help

i have downloaded blackra1n onto my laptop but when i run it as admin it comes up with an error saying that ASL.dll could not be found im using an iphone 3gs version 3.1.2 but also i connot sync my i phone with my laptop but it does charge when connected tho is there anyone who can help lol im going out of my mind trying to do everything i can think of but cant solve it
A quick note to all those having problems.
Make sure the phone is in recovery mode before running blackra1n. Mine didn’t work, then managed to stick it in recovery mode and it worked first time. Jail. Broken.
hi. I had blackrain for few month on my iphone 3gs but suddebly stop working the last time when my battery ran out.
now I stock, I have important note on my note pad and i don’t have backup, any suggestion how can i bring my iphone back without restoring.

I have a 2G*8Gb and evry time the battery Dies i have to “Mak it RA1n”…..unfortunately my Computer usually doesnt Do it.
so as i was browsing through this Page..i noticed that none of these thngs were wrkng for mee
So all i did was simply click the BLack Rain icon that i have Saved onto my computer…and it STILL didnt work but i then clicked it again during the JB process and Voila ~instant GRatification~ ;^)
so in theory just click to your hearts/ipods content

Devin’s trick not working with me, Blackra1n quit automatically when tryin to re-plug the phone.

could anyone help me? when i use blackra1n it repeat it again and again it doesn’t go to my slide to open it goes back to apple screen and then itune plug and the the blackra1n and then repeat over and over again. I try it 20 times and nothing happening. could someone email me on richard-996@hotmail.com please.
actually when i try to open blackra1n it says that the application has failed to start because asl.dll was not found. re-installing the application may fix this problem
I cant click on make it rain….. because the microsoft error report thing pops up!! i have to reinstall it because it is in recovery mode. PLEASE HELP!!! thank you
I have the same problem as you Codie. My 3GS 3.1.2 is at the connect to itunes screen, and I run Blackra1n and no matter what I change in the “Properties dialog box” it just crashes with the “Blackra1n has stopped working” error, right after I click the “Make it Rain” button. I have no idea what else to do. BTW, I’m running Windows 7.
